Artisan shaping clay pottery by hand in a Mexican workshop

Our Story

From workshop hands
to your home.

Eight family-run workshops across Mexico. Twice-yearly visits, small-batch orders, paid before shipment. The maker’s name on the back of every piece.

The shape of it

—

Artesano de México started in 2018 with one suitcase of Talavera plates from Puebla and a stall at a London market.

We’re a small studio in East London — three of us, plus our buyer Ana who lives in Puebla half the year. We work directly with eight family-run workshops across Mexico. We don’t run open calls. We don’t take samples. We visit, twice a year, every year. We place small orders, pay before the kilns are fired, and bring the finished pieces home in our hand luggage when we can.

Every piece is signed by the person who made it. If your plate has a wobble in the cobalt line or your wallet’s hide is darker on one side than the other, that’s not a flaw — that’s the mark of a hand. We don’t airbrush the photos. We don’t sell what we wouldn’t put in our own homes.

01

Direct from the makers

No agents, no fairs, no resellers. We meet the people who make every piece, and we go back twice a year.

02

Fair, traceable pricing

Workshops are paid in advance, in full, in pesos. Our margin is small enough that we know every maker’s name.

03

Each piece unique

Hand-thrown, hand-painted, hand-stitched — variations are normal. Each piece carries the trace of the person who made it.
